White Duck Taco Shop
White queso with queso fresco anchors a SoBro stop built around the joy of wandering somewhere new.
The Queso Connection
White Taco's Sobro location led me to invent the phrase *WANDERLUST QUESO** Years before there was a Queso Trail, I wandered over here from my awesome view 8th floor apartment at 805 Lea, buzzed and happy after moonshine and queso testing, because walking around Nashville and seeing what I could stumble into was one of my favorite parts of living downtown. Before Ole Smoky oopened, I remember talking with the guys there, getting a tour and tasting through the menu, all just a few blocks from home. Then there was White Duck, where I later wrote about the white queso with queso fresco for Eater Nashville. I don't drink anymore. That doesn't mean I don't have fond memories that involve alcohol. This is one of them. Those seven years in Nashville held some of the hardest chapters of my life, but I walked that city. I wandered it. I learned it block by block and restaurant by restaurant, following whatever smelled good, sounded interesting or had just opened around the corner. Maybe that's what wanderlust has always meant to me. Not simply wanting to go somewhere far away, but wanting to know what is waiting just beyond where you are. Sometimes adventure is a plane ticket. Sometimes it's walking across the street for queso.
WHAT TO ORDER
The queso briefing
Queso
This is queso with a passport. White Duck's menu happily sends tacos ricocheting from Bangkok to Seoul to India and back to Tennessee, while a bowl of white queso waits in the middle of the table to bring everybody home.
