The Queso Connection

Just across St. Augustine's Bridge of Lions, Osprey Tacos is a colorful, laid-back taqueria on Anastasia Island that I discovered during my Florida travels. The menu goes well beyond traditional street tacos, incorporating local ingredients, inventive combinations and plenty of coastal Florida personality. For the Queso Trail, the assignment is queso blanco, with house-made tortilla chips available separately. But don't stop there. The signature Saint Augustine taco brings fried shrimp, pickled onion, cabbage and house-made datil pepper sauce into the picture, while the Cuban taco transforms a Florida sandwich classic into taco form. With its retro beach-town atmosphere and Old Coast Ales brewery next door, Osprey is exactly the sort of independent food discovery I love bringing home from the road.
