White Queso / North Texas
Meso Maya
Poblanos, corn, nopales, and Chihuahua cheese give this Dallas queso a point of view—and a historic Little Mexico address.
The Queso Connection
Meso Maya is exactly why I never wanted the Queso Trail to become a parade of interchangeable bowls. This one has a point of view. Poblanos. Corn. Nopales. Chihuahua cheese. It tastes like somebody gave queso a passport and told it to go see something. And in Dallas, that's particularly fitting: the downtown restaurant occupies a 1938 building originally constructed for the Luna Tortilla Factory, part of the city's historic Little Mexico community. Meso Maya moved into the restored building in 2012.
WHAT TO ORDER
The queso briefing
Queso Poblano
This queso brought vegetables to the party and somehow made them rowdy. Chihuahua cheese, pepper jack and queso blanco melt around roasted poblanos, sweet corn and little paddles of nopales. It's smoky, green, earthy and unmistakably itself. Every scoop comes up looking like it collected souvenirs.
