Little Rock / Honduran / Latin American / Housemade Chips
El Sur Street Food Co.
Honduran food met Little Rock’s cheese-dip culture, and queso found its way onto the table beside baleadas, plantains, and anafres.
The Queso Connection
I loved this stop because it showed me that Arkansas cheese dip isn't frozen in history. It's still happening. El Sur began by sharing Honduran food with Little Rock, not trying to become another cheese-dip restaurant. But people kept asking for the bowl they knew, and eventually queso found its way onto the table beside baleadas, plantains and anafres. That's Ark-Mex in motion: a city meeting another food culture and the menu changing because everybody kept eating together.
WHAT TO ORDER
The queso briefing
Happy hour only queso
Little Rock basically talked this queso onto the menu. El Sur is proudly Honduran and Latin American, built around dishes like baleadas, arepas, plantains and anafres, but customers kept asking for the familiar Arkansas bowl. Now queso sits right beside all of it, simply described on the menu as “self explanatory.” In Arkansas, perhaps it is. El Sur Street Food Co
“Little Rock asked for cheese dip until Honduras made room at the table.”
Anafres
Honduran bean-and-cheese dip, chicharrón and housemade chips
